141. Boast not

Proverbs 25:6-7

“Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king and stand not in the place of great men: For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.”

We should not stand up and say look at me. Those that do will not be liked as much. Also, we shouldn’t just go along and hide from everything. We should do what we do and make sure people know that we do it but be humble about it.

I used to work on the drilling rigs in the recent past. Out there if you are not seen outside then you were never outside. For instance. The equipment you were in charge of breaks down. You are outside 23hrs a day and it broke down still. If the Drilling Site supervisor never saw you outside, then you were never outside. They would tell your manager that I don’t know what happened, but I never saw this guy outside. I make it a point to teach my students the following. When working on the rigs speak with the Drilling Site Supervisor every day when they are outside. Even if they don’t like you still say hello to them. That way you won’t get a bad name for being lazy.

  1. Do a good deed and tell no one. Never toot your own horn. Only three people will know, God, the recipient and you! Never boast unless you are a grandparent. A wise man told me that once, Travis Ward Brand the 1st! I miss that wise man!
