20 Constant Gentle Pressure

June 23, 2018

Proverbs 23: 9

Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

As a “Modern Survivalist” I find that I am constantly trying to encourage my peers and acquaintances to be prepared. I try to explain to them about the shackles that they willingly have placed upon themselves called debt. Some seem to understand and ask more questions. Some try to make you look foolish. It can be hard to walk away from them. It may be that they are just not ready for it. If you care for them try constant gentle pressure. I have found that it works. Try listening to them. Find ways to have them introduce themselves to adopting the philosophy of a Modern Survivalist.

19 GET OUT OF DEBT

June 22, 2018

Proverbs 22: 7

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

I hope the illustration speaks for today’s Proverb. It is so common today to be in debt. Many years ago the rich as royalty used to own everything. Including the people. At a point not too long ago the people revolted in many area’s to free themselves from the bondage. The rich had to come up with something to get the people back in bondage. Debt was the answer. Let us use greed to get them to enslave themselves. Let us show them nice things that they will want. Let us offer them money that they can pay back with interest so that we can suck the life out of them. Not only that we will use their other down fall. Sympathy. We will get them to agree to taxes and claim it will make their life better. We will then use that tax money to make the riches life better. They want your life. They want your money. They want your freedom. In rich’s (royalty) mind they own this anyway. They just got to get you to give it up willingly.

So many have given up their freedom. In the past I have given mine up also. I started a while ago to get out of debt. It is not easy. You must dig down deep and do it. Don’t fall for their trap any longer.

For yourself, for your family, for your descendants. Get out of debt. Teach your children to stay out of debt.

18 Wants and needs

June 21, 2018

Proverbs 21: 17

He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

Some make take today’s Proverb as GOD telling them you cannot drink alcohol. You cannot have oil. I think it is much deeper than that. As a modern survivalist I believe it is telling us not to covet things that we do not absolutely need to survive. We don’t need the 3000 square foot house in a neighborhood with 100 square feet of lawn where you can hear your neighbors whispering. We don’t need a Mercedes car just because everyone else does. If we try to live our lives to get those things we will become enslaved by them. The debt you may have to get in to get  can be crippling to you physically and spiritually.

Start today and pledge to yourself and your family that you will not be a slave to what the world tells you what success is. Determine what you need. Make a plan. Get what you need. Get out of debt.

Lokavagga: The World

Follow not the vulgar way; live not in heedlessness; hold not false views; linger not long in worldly existence

17 Good Advice

June 20, 2018

Proverbs 20: 18

Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war

There comes a time in life when tough decisions must be made. This is when it is good to have friends that share a mutual interest of success.

Have you ever known anyone who would always ask you for advice and then they seem to do the opposite? I sure have. I used to know several. They would ask person after person until they found someone who agreed with what they wanted. Bam! They had justification of their actions. Then shortly thereafter they and everyone else would know it was the wrong action to take. Most probably knew what was going to happen and that is why they told them not to do it. If you pose an action and the majority tell you not to do it then don’t do it.

Balavagga: The Fool: 61

Should a seeker not find a companion who is better or equal, let him resolutely pursue a solitary course; there is no fellowship with the fool.

16 Be restless

June 19, 2018

Proverbs 19: 15

Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

Procrastination has been the ruin of many people. I remember as a child in the school system aka (Prison System). The teacher would give us various projects to complete at home (aka freedom). The day before the project was due, the teacher would give us instructions on how to turn it in the next day. Whoa, I would go into panic mode. I would go home and inform my Mom what was going on. I would get talked to for about two hours about how irresponsible I was. Then I would stay up until midnight getting things together and turn in a project that looked terrible.

When I was at home I would get lost in the freedom that was entrusted to me by my parents. My rules were to be home before the street light came on and come home when momma calls for you. It was awesome to be at home. We lived close to woods that no one monitored so they were our woods. It was great.

When I would procrastinate and not do what I had to do. I would lose that freedom during that time to do then what I had to do. If I would have done it on a rainy day, it would have been a more suitable day than the sunny day I lost doing the project.

We are given the time to do what needs to be done in this life. Make plans and stick to them.

“Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today” Benjamin Franklin.

Appamadavagga: Heedfulness 29

Heedful among the heedless, wide-awake among the sleepy, the wise man advances like a swift horse leaving behind a weak jade.

15 Teaching Right from Wrong

June 18, 2018

Proverbs 18: 24

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

I know this Proverb may cause controversy. I would like to give my thoughts on it. I believe that as parents we have been given an extraordinary task of raising a human being to the point of being able to make it on their own without us. We will all die at some point and will not be there to take care of things for them. One of the most important things that we must teach them is that all their actions have consequences. For instance. Don’t go over there. There are lions over there. They will eat you. As a parent you must watch over your child until they are fully able to understand that they will be eaten by the lion if they go over there. If you see them getting close to the lions you must stop them. Sometimes that may require punishment. In my experience every child is different to what they will respond to. Some need things taken away. Some need a spanking. Some need a good talking to. As they get older, their ability to reason will become greater. The way you handle things needs to change to have a greater effect. There is no book that is written with the child’s name on it that states this is how to raise this child. It is our job to figure it out.

It is also our job as parents to teach kids the difference between wants and needs. They need to have patience instilled in their brains at a young age. Through patience and much thought their life will be much easier.

Yamakavagga: Pairs

  1. Those who mistake the unessential to be essential and the essential to be unessential, dwelling in wrong thoughts, never arrive at the essential.

14 Happy Fathers Day

June 17, 2018

Proverbs 17:5

Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.

Happy Fathers Day

It is Fathers Day here in the USA Today. Take time today to listen to your children. Teach them patience. It is our duty as parents to get them ready to live life without us one day.

13 Act like a Human Being

June 16, 2018

Proverbs 16:32

Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.

Today’s Proverb tell us it’s better to act like a human than like a wild animal. God gave us the ability to reason and this gives us the ability to predict possible outcomes based on our experience and of our forefathers from stories passed on to us. So think before you act. Your life will be much better because of it.

12 Your Precious Time

June 15, 2018

Proverbs 15: 17

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

Today’s Proverb reads like how most of us live these days.  We are so caught up in trying to keep up with the jones that we have little time to be happy.  In the world today, the giant corporations have gotten smart. They employ psychologist who know how the human mind works.  Basically, they understand that human’s biggest follies are greed and to covet thy neighbor’s possessions.  If we could just get thru our head that if we just worked for what we need then we would be so much happier.  The reason being is that we would have more time. We don’t realize that time is the one thing that is more precious than anything else. There is no amount of possessions that you can offer to gain more time. Start today, work hard and gather what is needed. Don’t worry about your neighbor. Don’t look for the next best thing that will most likely not make you happy. Give your precious time to your family and friends. Share with them if you have extra. Make their life better from knowing you.

Tanhavagga: Craving 336

But whoever overcomes this wretched craving, so difficult to overcome, from him sorrows fall away like water from a lotus leaf.

11 Find good knowledge

June 14, 2018

Proverbs 14: 7

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

This Proverb brings to my mind the current state of the Main Stream Media (MSM). All we here day in and day out is:

The world is terrible

They hate you, you should hate them.

If you look to other sources, to which you are not easily fed by headlines, you will find the world is a better place than it has ever been. Less people are starving. Access to medical care has increased. People are living longer. 51% of the world population has access to the internet, which means they have the ability to communicate with anyone. You may think the world is dark and dreary but things are getting better.

If we keep listening to the MSM things could get darker. Maybe even darker than it ever has. Let us not fight each other. If it doesn’t hurt you then don’t worry about it. Take care of your own affairs before worrying about trying to change anything else. When your stuff is together then go about changing the world.

I will close with a quote from Jordan Peterson, “ The best you can do, is to do what is right”. What is right is to get your things together. Get out of debt. If you have friends have friends that make your life better. Make your friends life better by knowing you.

Cittavagga: The Mind: 33

Just as a fletcher straightens an arrow shaft, even so the discerning man straightens his mind — so fickle and unsteady, so difficult to guard
