57 Never satisfied

Proverbs 30:15-16

The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:

The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.

Doesn’t today’s proverb remind us of the  Great lie of the dichotomy and the political environment of today. Both sides are constantly telling us what we should think. Some are never satisfied. No matter what they will always ask for more. “Just do this and it will be better. Oh oh now do this and it will be better”. Don’t get caught up in either side. They are only using you for their gain. Remember this: They are one in the same. Concentrate on your own house. When that gets perfected then concentrate on your circle of influence. When that is perfected then move on to bigger things.

Pledge today to get your house hold in order.

56 You find out who your friends are

Proverbs 29:3

“Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.”

As long as you have money and spend it foolishly you will have many so called friends. When you are down in the dumps you have but a few friends. These are the people who care about you. We should gain friends by helping to increase their wisdom and not by spending money on them. Make your friends lives better by knowing you. Have friends who make your life better also. I started a long time ago to not lone friends money. I either gave it to them as a gift or I would provide work for them to do. This way we were always kept things square between us.

55 Call it like you see it!

Proverbs 28:23

“He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.”

I know sometimes the truth hurts, especially if it is true. If we see someone we care for about to make a bad decision we should at least warn them of what might happen. If they brush off your advice at least you can say to yourself, ” I tried”.

54 Don’t stroke your own ego.

Proverbs 27:2

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

We all know atleast one person who always brags on themselves. I am sure that you get tired of hearing them do this. When we set out on a task we should do so with the thought of doing good works with no praise expected in return. Now if you see someone close to you doing good be sure to give them praise. It will help to make their day. This also applies to our family and especially to our children.

Make it a point today to give praise where it is due.

53 Don’t kid around too much

Proverbs 26:4

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

Today’s wisdom of the past can help us to control our reactions when dealing with people. Just because you are treated in a way doesn’t mean that you will benefit from returning the favor.

I once worked with a guy, and both of us would kid around a lot. One day I entered the back of a room where he was teaching a class to gather some materials for the next lesson. He blurted out, “what the heck I thought I said I would call you when I wanted you to come over”. I knew he was kidding which he was. The class looked at me standing in the back of the room. I just made a sad face, said nothing, and walked out. Later he called me and said “you poot head you made me look like an ass”. I just smiled.

If I would have said something back to him then he would have had fuel to keep going and I would have looked the same as him. He stopped doing things like that from that day forward.

52 Throw out the bad

July 25, 2018

Proverbs 25:4

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

The wisdom we can take away from this proverb and apply to our life is: We must get rid of the bad to get better.

From time to time I must ask myself, “What is good about me and what is bad”. Once we have identified the bad we must strive to do better. Identification isn’t enough.

I was once 40lbs over weight. I was happy until I had an umbilical hernia that became strangulated. That sent me to the emergency room. So, some surgery and $5K later I decided to do something about it. I tried cutting out all carbs/sugar and became miserable from feeling funny and could barely function. I then tried working out instead of eating right. Neither worked. I then heard a saying, “Weight is lost at the table and strength is gained through exercise”. This made since to me. What I did is the following: Ate normally for Breakfast and lunch. For supper I cut out all food carbs except beer. I pledged to not drink any of the adult carbohydrate beverages until after all my chores are done. A year later I am down 30lbs. I feel better. I can bend over without adjusting my britches and gut. It doesn’t take 10 minutes to get out of bed to keep from hurting my back.

In life there are things that may be hurting us. From time to time we must identify these things. After that we must do something about it.

51 Are you prepared?

July 24, 2018

Proverbs 24:10

If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

This proverb should speak to the heart of every modern survivalist or any self-reliant person. Why do we live this type of life style? It is to be prepared for things that are likely to happen. My top three things that could happen are:

  1. Job Loss
  2. Hurricane
  3. Major Illness

What am I doing so that I can be prepared for them.

  1. Job Loss: Paying down debt, growing some of my own food, saving money, and fighting the urge to impulse spend.
  2. Hurricane: nonperishable food storage, generator, battery backup, gasoline storage, tools, materials to make emergency repairs.
  3. Major Illness: Eating higher quality food, losing weight, and exercising every day.

What are your top 3 when it comes to being prepared for that which can happen?

50 Deceived by greed

July 23, 2018

Proverbs 23:1-3

1-When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 2-And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3-Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

Have you ever seen an advert and it is a great deal? You go to buy it and it isn’t what you thought it was? This happen all the time. Don’t be deceived by your own greed

49 Calm it down

July 22, 2018

Proverbs 22:24

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

Have you ever met someone who can make a room dark just by walking into it? We all know these kinds of people. Heck we may even be one of those people at times. Some days are a struggle to be happy. There are times that it is hard to find anything to be happy about. I find that if we can make progress everyday it can add to my happiness. Working in the garden every day when I get home from work helps to satisfy my mind and calms me. It gives me time to think on things. So, when you feel yourself getting stirred up, find something to do that needs doing. The old saying is true, “Idle hands are the devil’s playground”.

48 Are you sure that you are right?

July 21, 2018

Proverbs 21:2

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

When you go into an argument with someone always remember this proverb. Just the fact that they are arguing with you means that they think they are right. In the past the only way to end arguments peacefully was to agree to disagree. Now these days we have the knowledge of the world in our pocket in the form a smart phone. Be careful proving someone wrong. It could escalate things. The truth seems to infuriate people at times.
