51 Are you prepared?

July 24, 2018

Proverbs 24:10

If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

This proverb should speak to the heart of every modern survivalist or any self-reliant person. Why do we live this type of life style? It is to be prepared for things that are likely to happen. My top three things that could happen are:

  1. Job Loss
  2. Hurricane
  3. Major Illness

What am I doing so that I can be prepared for them.

  1. Job Loss: Paying down debt, growing some of my own food, saving money, and fighting the urge to impulse spend.
  2. Hurricane: nonperishable food storage, generator, battery backup, gasoline storage, tools, materials to make emergency repairs.
  3. Major Illness: Eating higher quality food, losing weight, and exercising every day.

What are your top 3 when it comes to being prepared for that which can happen?

50 Deceived by greed

July 23, 2018

Proverbs 23:1-3

1-When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 2-And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3-Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

Have you ever seen an advert and it is a great deal? You go to buy it and it isn’t what you thought it was? This happen all the time. Don’t be deceived by your own greed

49 Calm it down

July 22, 2018

Proverbs 22:24

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

Have you ever met someone who can make a room dark just by walking into it? We all know these kinds of people. Heck we may even be one of those people at times. Some days are a struggle to be happy. There are times that it is hard to find anything to be happy about. I find that if we can make progress everyday it can add to my happiness. Working in the garden every day when I get home from work helps to satisfy my mind and calms me. It gives me time to think on things. So, when you feel yourself getting stirred up, find something to do that needs doing. The old saying is true, “Idle hands are the devil’s playground”.

48 Are you sure that you are right?

July 21, 2018

Proverbs 21:2

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

When you go into an argument with someone always remember this proverb. Just the fact that they are arguing with you means that they think they are right. In the past the only way to end arguments peacefully was to agree to disagree. Now these days we have the knowledge of the world in our pocket in the form a smart phone. Be careful proving someone wrong. It could escalate things. The truth seems to infuriate people at times.

47 Take Control

July 20, 2018

Proverbs 20:1

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Don’t let things in your life cause you to lose control. The proverb today speaks literally about alcohol. Alcohol has the ability to good and an even greater ability to do bad. For instance, alcohol is needed to make some medicines. You can even use it to make herbal tinctures for your own medicine. If you drink too much alcohol you stand to become an alcoholic. It is a progressive disease that has ruined and ended many lives way to soon. Keep control of your life. If you feel yourself losing control stay away from whatever it is, even if it is socially acceptable.

46 Give and get back

July 19, 2018

Proverbs 19:17

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

Have you ever pulled up to an intersection that has a beggar with a sign that says, “Need Help” and you fill compelled to give something? Then other times feel nothing and don’t give?

Most human beings have this gut feeling. We should listen to it. Just like we should listen to it when it tells you to walk away or even run as fast as you can. The Lord may at times choose you to do good things that may need to be done at that instant. If we follow his direction in our lives we stand to prosper from it both spiritually and maybe even financially.

45 Calming advice

July 18, 2018

Proverb 18:4

The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

We should do our best to give people good advice. I have a thing with my brain that I can feel a situation and can become passionate about it when people tell me of things that have happened to them. It is almost as if it happened to me. I find myself emotional at times about it. I must control this emotion so that I don’t give bad advice. What people need is someone from the outside to ask them a series of questions to get to the bottom of the issue. We as humans have the ability over all other creatures on this planet to predict future outcomes in our mind. If you have emotion in the way you may give advice on the wrong outcome like you may do if it happened to you. Sometimes it is best to think on things for a while before giving advice and think about those possible outcomes

44 Exception?

July 17, 2018

Proverb 17:9

He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends

If we care for someone we should not repeatedly criticize their faults of the past. They may quit being friends with you. One day you will wonder why they don’t come around anymore. If our friend does something that you do not think is kosher then tell them only once. If they continue to do it then you must decide. You must either except their faults or stay away from them.

43 People Watch

July 16, 2018

Proverb 16:3

Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Today’s message tells us to surround our self with what we want to become. If you want to come smart then educate yourself. If you want to become rich then you should study what rich people do. Just be careful studying becoming rich. If the rich person you are studying is evil you may think it is ok to be evil and then become evil. When you become evil then your life is spent running and looking over your shoulder. I think we should strive to become good people. When you are good and follow the wisdom of the Lord you may not become rich materialistically but you will have a happy soul. You will sleep well at night.

42 A sharp tongue is no asset.

Proverb 15:1

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger

Wow, how much better of a place would the world be if we could implement this in all of our lives. Now I am not saying that we should not criticize our peers especially the ones we care about. We should get better at it so that it doesn’t cut like a double-edged sword. We should think about things before we let them loose from our mouth or before we hit post on the web page. Once it has been released you cannot get it back again.
