41 Don’t do it the rotten way

July 14, 2018

Proverb 14:10

The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

Most likely we have heard the following statement, “They are crooked why are they so rich?”

Well they may look be rich on the outside but on the inside, they are a constantly bombarded by the thought of, “will someone take this from me”. When you get rich this way it eats at the deepest parts of your inner being and rots you from within

Proverbs 13:11

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

Today’s proverb basically says don’t rely on your looks for they will only take you so far. You had better become good at something so you can provide sustenance for yourself

Proverbs 12: 25

Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad

How awesome is it to get a compliment? How super awesome is it to get a compliment when you are feeling weary or blue? Today’s Proverb tells us to encourage each other.

In the world of self-reliance there are times when we set goals that for some reason or another do not go as planned. You may plant a crop of food and then heavy rains ruin it or birds eat all your seed. I know these things are a learning experience on when not and how not to do things, but they can get you down. It is our responsibility to encourage each other in this community. If your friendship is only online via written messages it can be hard to tell if someone is down. Look for key words. Offer the assistance of wisdom if you have been through it before. Even if it doesn’t seem as though someone is down if you see a struggle because you know it is hard, remember to encourage them.

38 Ready for Wrath?

July 11, 2018

Proverbs 11: 4

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

In a biblical sense this proverb says that by living a good life you will have eternal life by living a righteous life.

In the here and now we will see wrath in many forms. In Southeast Texas wrath comes in the form of Hurricanes. I live 46 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and when Hurricane Ike went through here the wind blew at 100mph for 16 hours or so. That’s my most likely for of Wrath that can come into my life. When the systems go down you can have a million dollars in the bank and you cannot access it. At that moment you are just as poor as anyone else. If you are prepared for such a thing you are in much better shape. All of your food stays fresh since you have a generator. Your family stays happy since you can run a window unit in a bed room to keep things cool. You can take a warm shower since you have natural gas or propane fired water heater. You have all the food you need since you store 6 months of food.

So, start preparing today. It is a major part of being Self-Reliant.

So what other forms of Wrath can come into your life and how are you prepared for them?

Proverbs 10:16

The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

Today’s Proverbs tells us that a wise man works for what he needs. There are many study’s out there that cite many different income amounts that get you to overall happiness. Basically, they are saying that to be happy you need to make for instance US$70K per year. They say that if you make less then you will worry more. To make more than that the effort you must put in isn’t worth it.

So even over several thousand years ago the wise of that time stated something similar. Work for what you need. If you have a little left over then go after the want. You may ask, “what about vacations”. Yes, you need rest. That is why GOD stated that there must be a day of rest on the Sabbath day. And yes, you need extended rest.

So be wise and do what you need to do. I usually try to give my employer %110 every day. So that I can get an income to pay off my debts that I so willfully accepted in the past. When I reach debt freedom I may change what I do, who knows.

36 Build your house

Proverbs 9:1

Sound Wisdom: Straighten up, come to a proper understanding of things before acting, and be fair and impartial.

Understanding: Learn Learn Learn, Be able to discern between good and evil

Power: If you implement the previous 6 pillars into your life you will truly have power and strength.

35 Stock your mind

Proverbs 8:21

“That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures”

Albert Einstein once said, “once you stop learning you start dying”. Most of Proverbs 8 tells they story of wisdom and how she was there from the beginning before there was anything. It also tells of the great treasures that await those who love her and keep her ways.

In our daily life we are most happy when learning. Even learning the simplest things can bring joy to your heart and body. For example: You learn how to fix a leaky faucet in your home. You save the $80 plumber call out fee etc.… And you don’t have to listen to the dripping faucet when you just want silence. By fixing your own faucet you kept money in your pocket, fill your treasures. Remember what old Benjamin Franklin said, “a penny saved is a penny earned.

34 Don’t look only for agreeance

July 7, 2018

Proverbs 7:22

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

The beginning of proverbs 7 speaks to the reader that they must love wisdom and to cling to it with all thy might. The end portion tell the story of a young man being lured and deceived by a wayward wife whose husband is gone working.

Proverbs 7 tell us not to be a fool. You may ask yourself, “how do we stop that”? The best answer is to learn all you can about everything. Today ignorance is really no excuse. Right at our finger tips we have all the information in the world. Now I am not telling you to believe everything you see, read, or hear on the internet, but find good sources. When tough decisions arise, it doesn’t hurt to ask people who care about you what they think. They love you and hopefully have your best interest in mind. Don’t stop there do your own research. Then weigh the good and bad and decide.

33 Be a ant

July 6, 2018

Proverbs 6:6

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

We all have probably heard the story of the ant and the grasshopper. To keep it short the ant worked hard all summer and gathered food for the winter. The grasshopper played and slept all summer and when winter came the grasshopper starved to death. We must continually work hard every day and use every opportunity to better ourselves and those around us. We cannot slack up. Everyday no matter the weather we are provided the opportunity to get stuff done (GSD).

Yesterday at my homestead we received a much-needed rain. I planned to watch tv all day. I wrestled with being lazy, because it just isn’t me. I decided to organize my work bench. After I finished, it was lunch time so I ate and took a nap. After the nap it had stopped raining and the air was cool. I decided to weed the strawberries and sweet potatoes. Weeding the garden isn’t much fun. Add to that we have had very dry conditions making it very difficult to weed, because the soil is tight. When the rains came it loosened to soil and made weeding much easier. I was provided the time and the circumstances to get it done.

Use your time wisely. GSD while you can.

32 Drink clean water

July 5, 2018

Proverbs 5:15

Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

The context of this proverb is telling people not to go out and whore around. Stay with the spouse of your youth. Don’t lay with ones who don’t have your best interest in mind. Commune only with those who will benefit from you succeeding.

There are also many other ways to look at this wisdom of old. If you take it literally it is saying don’t drink the water that everyone else drinks. Many have died from drinking from the same water sources. Sick person does there thing up river, people drink downstream and get sick.  As a modern survivalist water should be high on the importance list second only to shelter. We need water to survive. Water can keep you alive or it could end you quickly. Drink only clean water. Don’t drink the stuff out of the tap without filtering it first. Berkey filters are a great choice. One that is recommended by someone I respect is found at this website: http://www.directive21.com/.

I’ll leave you today with a quote: I was in Sunday School class and my high school biology teacher said on the subject of public water supply, “I don’t even wash my mouth out after brushing my teeth with it. The chemicals are that bad.”
